Last Years Artists 2007

East Riding & Hull Open Studios – ‘Creative Destinations’
Call to Artists & Craftsmen to take part!
The Open Studios is an opportunity for artists from East Riding & Hull to exhibit together in a joint event. It acts as a flagship for quality creative practitioners from around our region, which will bring the public to your door, expand your networking opportunities and give you a chance to welcome customers old and new.
East Riding & Hull Open Studios, asks its participating artists to display, demonstrate and explain their skills to the public from their place of work over the first two weekends in October. Studios/Workspaces in the past have ranged from a lighthouse to garden sheds, garages and galleries, visitors are intrigued by the range of working situations and practices, however quirky or formal.
Open Studios activities around the country, are now considered to play an important part in the cultural and economic success of an area and the East Riding event has thrived over the past two years. In 2007 there were over 6000 visits to 52 studios and £21,000 in sales over the two weekends. The 2007 East Riding Open Studios covered a huge geographical area from Spurn to Bridlington and Goole to Pocklington; this event will be used in future years to point the way to cultural collaborations with international arts programs.
For this year's Open Studios it seemed obvious to the organisers, 'Create Big Skies', to expand the quality and area to include all artists from Hull and the East Riding, for this we have the support of Arts Council Yorkshire, Hull City Arts and East Riding Council Arts Development. We are sure this joint venture will lead to another successful event, not only for the participants, but also for the visitors, who were surprised at the quality of the work last year, one commented "Brilliant, had a great time - enthusiasm everywhere, a breath of fresh air - food for the soul.”
